James Francis (Jimmy) Smith

James Francis (Jimmy) Smith, of Hobart, OK, was born on November 25th, 1968, and passed from this life on December 27th, 2023 at age 55 at his home in Hobart surrounded by his loving dogs, Meatball and Saint. Jimmy was born in Washington D.C. to Joseph Smith and Sharon Vaughan Smith. He grew up in a very hard working family with three sisters: Sharon Jo, Nancy, and Kathleen. Jimmy was extremely close to his family. They lived in Maryland, South Carolina, Cuba and Bermuda before he settled in Oklahoma. Jimmy attended W.T. Sampson High School in Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba. There he wrestled and was the class treasurer. Jimmy graduated in 1987. He furthered his education learning taxidermy in Cuba and welding in Bermuda. He also discovered one of his life’s passions while in Cuba–surfing. He started surfing when he was fourteen and excelled at it. Jimmy loved anything to do with the water. It was his happy place. Jimmy was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Chelsea on October 31st, 1991. She was the light of his life. He was very proud of her in every aspect of her life. She is a wonderful daughter, wife, mother and entrepreneur. Chelsea and her husband, Rinat blessed the world with their son, Connor on September 18th, 2019. Jimmy’s favorite thing in the whole wide world was being his papa. Jimmy married the love of his life, Nona Burden in Vernon, Texas on February 14th, 2000. They renewed their vows on February 14th, 2023 at the Lighthouse Assembly of God church in Hobart, OK where they attended church. He loved his pastor, church family, and learning about his Lord and Savior. Jimmy had many jobs during his life, but his life’s calling was carpentry. He could build a house from the ground up and did it many times. You can drive around Hobart and see a house that he built or did some type of work to on almost every street. Some of Jimmy’s hobbies and pastimes were music, fishing, working out, antiquing for old tools, and playing with his dogs. He will be greatly missed by his Great Dane and Pit Bull. Jimmy was an amazing man. He was the life of the party anywhere he went. He was generous to a fault. Jimmy would give anyone the shirt off his back or offer a helping hand. Jimmy deeply loved God, his wife, Nona, his family, his many friends, and his dogs. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Nona and their two dogs, Meatball and Saint of the home. His daughter, Chelsea Smith Nadeev, husband Rinat and grandson, Connor of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by father and mother-in-law, Burt and Peggy Burden of Hobart, OK, Grandmother, Wanda Rogers of Hobart, OK, Sisters, Nancy Phillips and husband Jeff of Hobart, OK, Sharon Jo Smith of SC, and Kathleen Smith of Hobart, OK, brother and sister-in-law, Teddy and LaWanda Wyrick of Hobart, OK. Jimmy also leaves nephews and nieces, Brandon and Megan Appling of Oklahoma City, OK, Brett and Alexis Appling of Moore, OK, Erik and Victoria Diaz of Orlando, FL, Tyler and Madison Gable of San Antonio, TX, Jarrett and Kristian Phillips of Ft. Gibson, OK, Jacie and Landon Walker of Ft. Gibson, OK, Taw Wyrick of Hobart, OK, Peyton and Landyn Welch and Jensen Dean of Hobart, OK, 4 great nephews, 3 great nieces & a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends all over the world. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sharon Smith, his paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Catherine Smith, and maternal grandparents, James and Shirley Vaughan grandfather, Ed Rogers, and grandparents, Ivory and IvaDean Burden. Jimmy was cremated and his memorial service will be January 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lighthouse Assembly of God church at 820 S. Lincoln, St. in Hobart, OK.
