Janice Sue Stoup

Janice Sue Duff Stoup passed from this life on December 15, 2023, at the age of 82. Janice was born on August 16, 1941, in Hobart, Oklahoma to Oliver Lawrence Duff and Roberta Ann Smith Duff. She grew up on the family farm east of Hobart. Janice married Harold Gene Stoup on October 13, 1957, at her family home east of Hobart. She and Gene were very happily married for almost 50 years. They were blessed with three sons, Lyndal, Jimmy, and Kevin. Janice obtained her GED and was accepted to college as a probation student since she did not have a high school diploma. She enrolled at Southwestern Oklahoma State University as a full-time student and made the honor roll every semester. Janice received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and began graduate studies. She completed her master’s degree in special education. Janice later completed her certification in psychometry and went on to complete certification to become a Speech Therapist. She taught school at Altus, Lone Wolf, Hobart, and finished her teaching career as a speech therapist in Altus Public Schools. Janice went to college, taught school, helped on the farm, all while raising three boys, and making sure they were in church twice every Sunday and every Wednesday night without fail. She, Gene and their three sons were farmers and ranchers on their farm southeast of Lone Wolf. They raised wheat, cattle, and buffalo. Janice drove the tractor and cooked delicious meals to take to the family in the field. Janice was an outstanding cook. She loved to cook for her whole family for the holidays or anytime they could be together. Janice’s family loved for Grandma to share her recipes. Janice was a talented artist. Her family treasures her beautiful paintings. Janice also painted porcelain dolls and made beautiful hand sewn doll clothes for them. She was a gifted seamstress and made beautiful clothes for her family. Janice also crocheted beautiful baby blankets and Afghans for her family. She was a member of the Hobart Quilting Club and made magical quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Janice and Gene loved to travel. They took their five granddaughters and five grandsons on many camping trips in their motor home. Janice and Gene camped, boated, and fished on many lakes in Oklahoma. Going on a camping trip in the motor home with Grandma and Grandpa was always the most fun ever for all of the grandchildren. Janice and Gene went on many camping trips in their motor home to Colorado, Wyoming, Texas, and Canada. They enjoyed taking trips to Acapulco, Washington D.C., New York City, Alaska, and Hawaii. Janice knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Hobart. She loved her Sunday School class and participating in church activities. Janice is preceded in death by husband Gene, parents Lawrence and Roberta Duff, brother Larry Duff, sister Jean Ann Walker, brother-in-law Harmon Walker Jr., and nephew Larry Joe Walker. She is survived by her three sons, Lyndal and wife Susan of Cordell, Jimmy and wife Celecia of Hobart, and Kevin and wife Tracy of Navajo. Ten grandchildren, Shannon Dershem and husband Warfield of Stillwater, Kerry Nelson and husband Tyler of Martinez, California, Shawna Jones and husband Philip of Mill Creek, Utah, Karig Stoup and wife Lauren of Verdigris, Camron Stoup and wife Kinsey of Clayton, New Mexico, Kyle Stoup and wife Martha of Burns Flat, Brian Stoup and wife Haylee of Altus, Clayton Stoup and wife Trebby of Manitou, Kelly Stoup of Orem, Utah, Brett Stoup of Stillwater. Janice is also survived by twenty great-grandchildren, Ben, Abby, and Hannah Dershem of Stillwater, Kate and Caroline Nelson of Martinez, California, Silas and Andrew Jones of Mill Creek, Utah, Emma Stoup of Verdigris, Cutter, Grady, and Taw Stoup of Clayton, New Mexico, Eli and Lydia Stoup of Burns Flat, Colt, Cason, and Doss Stoup of Altus, Syland, Shole, and Sunny Stoup of Manitou, and Juniper Stoup of Stillwater. She is survived by brother-in-law Gary Stoup and wife Colleen of Blanchard, sister-in-law Sabrina Vincent and husband Reuben of Brownwood, Texas, sister-in-law Cheryl Duff of Hobart, her much loved nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Janice was dearly loved by her family and will be missed by everyone who knew her. Services for Janice are scheduled for Friday, December 22, 2023, 2:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church in Hobart, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Hobart Rose Cemetery. Public viewing for Janice will be held Thursday, December 21, 2023, 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with family present to receive friends between the hours of 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM at People's Funeral Home, located at 1400 W Main, Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. 580-846-9018 Memorials for Janice can be made to the First Baptist Church Falls Creek Fund.
