Jerry Marvin Martin

Jerry Marvin Martin, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and steadfast steward of faith, family, and land, entered his eternal rest on March 15, 2026. He passed at home, surrounded by family, at the age of 86. With his passing, the world grew a little less bright, but his legacy of love, service, and hard work will endure through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren for generations. Jerry was born in September 1939 in Granite, Oklahoma, to Marvin Martin and Judy Castle Martin. He was the second of four children, preceded in birth by his brother Robert Victor and followed by siblings Carole Elaine and Danny Joe. He was a proud member (and class president) of the final senior class to graduate from Lake Creek High School, and he carried his deep roots in that community throughout his life. He continued his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Education, later completing a Master of Natural Science degree at the University of Oklahoma. During his time at SWOSU, Jerry met the first love of his life, Sharon Powers. The two were married on May 8, 1959, at Grace Baptist Church in Granite, Oklahoma, and shared nearly 59 years of marriage before Sharon’s passing in February 2018. Together they raised three children—Listena, Mark, and Joey—instilling in them the values of faith, integrity, perseverance, and devotion to family. Jerry began his professional life as an educator in Butler, Oklahoma, before accepting a position at Weatherford High School. He later transitioned to service with the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation in Weatherford and subsequently at the Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite. This move allowed Jerry to return home and fully pursue his lifelong passion for farming and ranching, a calling he carried alongside his professional work. Later, he was recruited back into education by Granite High School, teaching math and science before retiring in 1998 as elementary principal. Even in retirement, Jerry never stepped away from the land; farming and ranching remained at the heart of his daily life. Alongside his brother Bobby, Jerry built a successful and respected cattle operation, Martin Brothers Polled Herefords, specializing in registered Polled Hereford cattle. He later continued that legacy with his son Mark Martin and grandson Josh Martin as Martin Farms. Jerry was also deeply involved in and supportive of his grandson Brandon Folsom and Folsom Farms. He took immense pride in the accomplishments of all his children and grandchildren, the professions they chose, and the families they nurtured, both birthed and chosen. A lifelong resident of the Lake Creek community, Jerry was a faithful member of Lake Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. His commitment to preserving local heritage was evident in his support of the Lake Creek historical marker, and he felt great pride knowing the family farm would receive in the near future designation as a Centennial Farm—an honor reflecting generations of dedication to the land. In later years, God blessed Jerry with renewed companionship when he was reacquainted with his childhood friend, June Roberts. Their marriage was a joyful testament to enduring love, shared faith, and the beauty of second chances. Together they celebrated life and family, and Jerry embraced the extended family that came with this union. Jerry was preceded in death by several family members including his parents; his first wife, Sharon; and his siblings, Bobby, Carole, and Danny Joe. He is survived by his wife, June Martin; daughter and son-in-law, Listena and David Prickett; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Karen Martin; son, Joey Martin; stepdaughter and husband, Donna and Steve Guthrie; grandchildren Brandon Folsom, Bryce Prickett, Josh Martin, and Jade Bell, along with their spouses and children; step grandsons Payton and Connor Guthrie and Robert Knight; and many beloved extended family members. Through his marriage to June, Jerry was further blessed with three additional grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, bringing his total legacy to seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Jerry Martin’s life was defined by faith, family, hard work, compassion, and love. His example will continue to guide those who knew and loved him, and his memory will remain forever rooted in the land and people of Lake Creek. Services for Jerry are scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2026, 10:30 A.M., at Lake Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Rock Cemetery. Public viewing will begin on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., with family present to receive friends between the hours of 5:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M., at People’s Funeral Home, located at 1400 West Main, Lone Wolf, 580-846-9018.
