Alma Jewel Newberry

Alma Jewel Newberry, age 87, a resident of Tomball, Texas, passed away at the Heights of Tomball on Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Jewel was born in Paris, Texas on October 8, 1927 to William Marvin Ashley and Carabelle (Ray) Ashley. Jewel was the youngest of 11 children. She attended school at Lone Wolf, where she graduated from high school. On March 15, 1946 she married the love of her life, Warren Newberry, in Wichita Falls. The couple made their home on the Newberry Farm north of Lone Wolf, and together they had two children. She spent her life in many different places including Vernon, the Chicago Suburbs for a short time, Waco, and recently in Tomball with her daughter. Although she moved around several times, she always felt her home was in the Lone Wolf and Hobart area. She was a member of the Vernon Christian Church in Vernon and the Lakewood Christian Church in Waco. In her free time, she enjoyed collecting birdhouses and her favorite bird was the wren. Jewel’s true passion in life was spending time with her family and friends. She was devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 64 years, Warren Newberry; 4 sisters; and 6 brothers. Survivors include a son, Steven Newberry and wife, Connie of Oklahoma City, OK; a daughter, Linda Taylor and husband James of Tomball, TX; 3 grandchildren, Brian Newberry, Sara Crawford and husband, Justin, and Matthew Newberry; 2 great grandchildren, Hanna Crawford and Jackson Crawford; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 30, 2015 at People’s Cooperative Funeral Home Chapel in Lone Wolf, OK with Scott DeVore, officiating. Burial will be at the Lone Wolf Cemetery in Lone Wolf, OK.
