Donald G. Copeland
May 12, 1941 - December 7, 2018
Donald G. Copeland, Lone Wolf resident, passed from this life on Dec. 7, 2018 in OKC at age 77. Don was born on May 12, 1941 to Paul & Geneva (Corbin) Copeland in Sentinel, OK. He graduated from Lone Wolf High School in 1959 & then graduated from Draughons Business College in OKC shortly after. Don joined the Air Force National Guard Reserves in the early ‘60s where he served several years. Don married Kay Townley on Oct. 24, 1964 in OKC at the First United Methodist Church & to this union two daughters were born, Kristi & Deidra. Don began his professional career at Continental Bakery/OKC in the Accounting Department, then moved to CIT Financial before landing at Dolese Bros, Co. as the Accounting Manager. Don decided he wanted to move his family back to the small community of Lone Wolf. Don was hired as the Asst Manager of the Planter’s Co-op in Lone Wolf. Don desired to be a head Co-op Manager, but knew that Kenny Hahn was so great at what he did, that that opportunity wouldn’t become available while at Lone Wolf. Don was offered a job as Head Manager at the Hydro Co-op. His family was blessed to meet many great families in the community of Hydro but Don later accepted a position at the Mid-Continent Farmer’s Co-op in Yukon where he and Kay were able to spend day-to-day time w/their 1st grandchildren, Madisyn & Mackenzie. When it was discovered that he would spend his lunchtime playing barbies w/the twins, all were certain Don & Kay were exactly where God intended them to be. Several years later, Kenny Hahn offered Don a Branch Manager position at Planter’s Co-op in 2003. Don had always enjoyed working for Kenny & felt God was calling himself and Kay back “home”. He didn’t retire until 2015 mainly due to loving his work & customers at Planter’s Co-op. Some of Don’s favorite time was spent serving w/David Carson in the Prison Ministry at Granite Reformatory from ‘04-’16, where he was later named the Volunteer of the Year in ‘14. Don also enjoyed his membership of the Lions Club & the Hobart & Yukon Rotarian Clubs for countless years where he also served several terms as President. Don ministered at the OKC Rescue Mission, taught many Sunday school classes & guest pastored at numerous churches. Don was a sports commentator for LW Junior High football games for many years (he loved any time w/a microphone). He also refereed & umpired for all ages for countless years, enjoyed golfing, “perfecting” his own lawns & playing on adult bowling & softball leagues. Don absolutely loved watching all OK teams play BB, baseball & football but he got most excited watching his his Grandkids, Sooners and OKC Thunder win. Don’s grandson, Jaxson, loved watching any sports w/his “Granddad”. Don loved playing Rook & Dominoes especially at the bi-annual Corbin Family Reunions. One year, before GPS, Don & family got lost & couldn’t find the destination of the reunion, which made for many laughs at future reunions, for everyone except Don anyway. Don was quite competitive, so it was important that he pick a good partner when playing Rook, Joker’s Wild or Dominoes. “Study Long, Study Wrong” was his saying when opponents were taking too long making a decision. He especially enjoyed watching all of his Grandkids at sporting events. He was proud of all of them & would always yell out “Give it a ride!” right before his Granddaughter, Reagan, would get up to bat at a softball game. Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kay of the home, daughters, Kristi Dawn Pierce of Yukon & Deidra Ann Peters & spouse, Fred Peters Jr., of Norman. Don leaves a legacy of 4 grandchildren, Madisyn & spouse, DJ of Norfolk, VA; Mackenzie & fiancé, Dakota of Yukon; Reagan & Jaxson of Norman; & one Great-Grandchild, on the way. Don is also survived by sister, Lynda Copeland of Edmond; brother, Rick Copeland & spouse Karen of Amarillo; & brother, Wendell Copeland of OKC & a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul & Geneva Copeland & Mother-in-Law, Louise Townley. Services for Don were scheduled for Wed., Dec. 12, 2018, 1:00pm at the Red River Cowboy Church in Mangum w/Pastors Nick Harris & Darrell Coffman officiating. Interment will follow at Lone Wolf Cemetery. Public viewing for Don was Tues., Dec. 11, 2018, 1:00pm until 8:00pm w/family receiving friends between 6:00pm & 8:00pm at People’s Funeral Home located at 1400 West Main, Lone Wolf, 580-846-9018. Arrangements are entrusted to Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home. On-line condolences can be made for Don by visiting www.peoplescooperativefuneralhome.com.
