Farrell Donald Hughes passed from this life on November 10, 2016 at home in Mangum with family by his side at the age of 83. Farrell was born on December 16, 1932 in Whiteflat, Oklahoma to Frank Hughes and Ethel Mae (Oden) Hughes. Farrell grew up in the Central View area and attended grade school and high school in Central View. Farrell loved to play baseball and basketball while growing up and was an avid fan as well. He did everything right handed except shoot. He liked to hunt quail. Farrell joined the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict and continued in the Reserves for eight years. Farrell was a Marksman and after returning home the family story that is told that he shot nine quails in a moving vehicle with his hand pistol. Farrell worked as a production manger in the Oil and Gas Industry after returning home, but his favorite job was being the custodian for the Mangum Public School System. Farrell was a member of the American Legion and not only a member of the Church of the Living Waters; he was the eldest member of the church as well. Farrell taught his children well and they always respected him for that. Farrell is survived by two sons: Eugene Hughes and wife Donna of Mangum and Steven Hughes also of Mangum, one sister: Rhonda Mae Norton of Amarillo, Texas. Farrell leaves a legacy of three grandchildren: Donald Jason Hughes, Angela Gayle Marano and husband Omar and Tasha Lynn Sickler and husband Louis and eleven great-grandchildren. Farrell is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. Farrell was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Jennifer Lea Hughes, sister Wanda Buchanan and special nephew Mike Buchanan. Church Services for Farrell are scheduled for Monday, 10:00 A.M., November 14, 2016 at the Living Water First United Pentecostal Church located at 1600 North Louis Tittle with Pastor David Weber officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery also in Mangum with Jason Hughes, Christian Hughes, Eule Laughlin, Shawn Laughlin, Joseph Perez and Aaron Leedy serving as pallbearers.
