Harold Cecil Clopp, age 76, a resident of Granite, Oklahoma, passed away at his home, Friday, May 25, 2018. Harold was born on May 31, 1941 in Granite, Ok to Elmer Clopp and Donie Inez (Smith) Clopp. His grandparents, Charlie and Nellie Smith were an important part of his childhood years in Granite. He attended school in Granite, Altus and California. He also attended Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas, where he received two Associate degrees and was working on a third degree. Harold began his military career by joining the National Guard for a two year span. He joined the US Army on February 5, 1960, where he did 4 tours in Viet Nam. He also served in Germany, Korea and various US posts, retiring after ultimately serving our country for over 20 years. Harold was a well decorated combat veteran. Following Harold’s military retirement he worked as an ROTC instructor/assistant football coach at Allen Academy in Bryan, Texas where one of his most treasured memories was going to the state football championship with Allen Academy Rams! He then began working at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, eventually promoting to Food Service Captain. After 23 years of service in TDCJ, Harold retired in 2004 and soon moved back to Southwest Okla., the place he now called home. A delight in Harold’s life was when he married Janice Colson on July 15, 1971. Harold loved to share stories of his family with great pride. Also, using his gift for helping others was seen repeatedly. Watching football and baseball, cheering for the OU Sooners, Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers was a favorite pastime and brought him many years of enjoyment. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed. Harold was a member of the Granite Church of Christ and had a strong love for the Lord. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Survivors include his wife of nearly 47 years, Janice Clopp, of the home; two sons: George Clopp, wife Evelina, of Plano, Texas and Ricky Helton, wife Sandra, of Kitzingen, Germany; one daughter, Paula Cassell, husband Patrick, of Copperas Cove, Texas; Legacy of Four Grand Children: Jarrod Davis, Aidan Clopp, Eliana Clopp and Phillipp Helton. He also leaves behind one brother: Ron Sherill, wife DeeDee, of Corinth, Texas; two sisters: Edna Thacker, husband Larry, of Wildomar, CA and Alice Faye Sigle, husband John, of Lubbock, Texas; Don Smith, (Uncle), wife Shirley, of Norman, Oklahoma; Mary Ethel Pollard, (Aunt), of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; Special friends: Ret 1st Sgt Richard Veal, wife Carol, of Saline, Michigan and Rodney (deceased) Marsh, wife Jewell, of Beirne, Arkansas. Harold also leaves behind numerous other extended family members and friends. Services for Harold were scheduled for Tuesday, May 29, 2018, 11:00 A.M. at the Church of Christ in Granite with Ken Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Granite City Cemetery where the US Army Honor Guard will perform graveside rites. Public viewing was scheduled at 1:00 P.M. Monday, May 28, 2018, with family receiving friends Monday evening between 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M., at People’s Cooperative Funeral Home located at 1400 West Main, Lone Wolf, OK 580-846-9018.
