Janina Pirog
June 2, 1922 - July 20, 2015
Janina "Jean" Pirog was born .Janina Dabrowska June 2, 1922 in Holatyn, Poland. She returned to the Lord on July 20, 2015 at the age of 93. As a baby she was given up to a Catholic convent and raised by nuns. Her strong faith and belief in the Lord gave her the strength to endure a life of hardship. As a teenager during the Nazi occupation of Poland she was used as a slave laborer in various factories and eventually ended up in a concentration camp for women in Ravensbrück in Northern Germany. As the Nazis abandoned the camp she and several friends trekked across Germany to the American and English lines. Walking in her bare feet in winter time she contracted typhus and was cared for by English troops. She was repatriated to England where she married Wladyslaw Pirog a Polish soldier fighting with the English. She eventually moved to the United States spending a little time in California and eventually settling in New York. Alone again she had to find the strength to raise three sons. She also spent her time caring for others who needed help like the sick and the invalid. She enjoyed cooking Pierogis, potato pancakes and sharing stories. She enjoyed making Polish Christmas decorations for everyone's tree. Her favorite pass time was watching wrestling. Though her life was hard her prayer life gave her the strength she needed to survive and become a strong Mother and Grandmother. ln her later years she retired to Oklahoma City to be near her son Robert. Janina is survived by her three children, Robert and wife Nola Pirog of Yukon, OK, Edward and wife Kathy Pirog of Villa Rica, GA, and Julian and wife Lez Pirog of Greenwood, IN; her grandchildren, Kathleen, Kara, Dianne, Josh, Amanda, and Danielle. She is preceded in death by her husband Wladyslaw Pirog. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 24, 2015 at the Catholic Church of the Epiphany of the Lord in Oklahoma City, OK with Rev. John Aram, officiating. A private burial will be on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the Lone Wolf Cemetery in Lone Wolf, OK. Arrangements are entrusted to People’s Cooperative Funeral Home, Lone Wolf, OK.
