John Vernon Martin (J.V.), age 92, passed from this life on August 23, 2016 in Lubbock, Texas. J.V. was born on August 6, 1924 in Meadow, Texas to John David Martin and Lena (Moore) Martin. J.V. and his family moved to Lone Wolf in 1936. In 1960 they moved to Lockney, Texas. J.V. was a member of the Trinity Church in Floydada, Texas. J.V. was musically inclined playing the fiddle, guitar and mandolin. He loved to sing and play at church and the nursing homes. He also liked to garden. And yes, he was a prankster, loving to laugh and make other people laugh as well. His overall passion was cars and being the mechanic he was, he would attempt to diagnose a car’s “illness” up to the end. He had many stories he told about some of the first cars he ever had and pranks he would pull on his beloved uncle, Grover Moore. J.V. is survived by one daughter Janice Randolph of Lubbock, Texas; one brother; Henry Bob Martin and wife Louise of Tuttle, Oklahoma; three grandchildren; Taryn Rachelle Graves and husband Bill; Tanya Renee Maddox and husband Dub; and Rylan Lee Randolph and wife Katie. Great-grandchildren are Jenica Grace Brooks, Rilee Sierra Randolph, Colton Bryant Randolph, Everiee Jessica Randolph, Jayden Louise Graves and Kendal Marie Graves, and a host of other relatives and friends. J.V. was preceded in death by son Johnny Lee Martin, wife Virginia Louise Martin, second wife Joyce Davis Martin; brother Harold Wayne Martin, sister Alma Lucille Phillips and great-grandson Turner Joseph Randolph.
