Opal Edith Cain

Opal Edith Cain, age 98, a resident of Elk City, Oklahoma, passed away at the Elk City Nursing Home on Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Opal was born in Retrop, Oklahoma on January 29, 1917 to Ezra Ward Coy and Naomi Edith (Aldridge) Coy. Opal was a lifelong resident of Beckham County and attended school in Retrop. She married Loyd Cain, and together they had four children. After Loyd’s passing in 1961, she took over the family farm. She also went on to work at a Pant Factory and as a CNA in hospitals. As a member of the Retrop Baptist Church, she was a prime example of a Christian woman and mother. She was the caregiver in her family, who had a passion for making sure everyone around her was properly cared for. Opal was a devoted wife, mother, and friend who will be dearly missed. She is survived by her son, Jimmy Cain of Elk City, OK; three daughters, Peggy Goodall of Hammon, OK, Carolyn Smith and husband John of Sayre, OK, and Gayla Midyett of Elk City, OK; a brother, Noble Coy of Retrop, OK; a sister, Jean Miller and husband Herb of Corn, OK; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Cain; parents, Ezra and Naomi Coy; granddaughter, Sheila; and grandson, Jeremiah.
