Robert Leroy Meinert
September 29, 1927 - September 5, 2019
Robert Leroy Meinert was born September 29, 1927 in Lone Wolf, OK to Louise (Kosanke) Meinert and Herman Carl Meinert. He passed away September 5, 2019 at the age of 91. Robert grew up on the family farm northwest of Lone Wolf with his brothers Lloyd and Dale and sister Francis. He loved sports and enjoyed playing football, basketball and baseball through his school years. Robert was a talented athlete and after graduating from Lone Wolf in 1945 went on to attend Oklahoma A&M where he played football and was a member of the 1945 National Championship team. Through the years Robert attended alumni banquets with his former teammates and always had stories to tell of his years there. He married Naomi Faye Stephens on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1948 in Vernon Texas. They made their home on the farm where they raised wheat, cotton and cattle. He did custom wheat harvest for many years. They had three children, Robert Duane, Monte Carl and Patti Gail. They were blessed with 62 years of marriage before Naomi Faye passed away in 2010. Robert was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Lone Wolf and loved music, sang in the church choir and attended community music events. He enjoyed listening to his sons Monte and Duane play music and passed on his appreciation for music to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Naomi and Robert loved to travel and had two special vacation destinations: Branson for the music and entertainment and Red River, New Mexico where they could relax in the cool temps after a hot summer harvest. Robert loved sports and never missed a game of his children or grandchildren as they were growing up. In the 60’s his brother, Dale, played for the St. Louis Cardinals NFL team which meant lots of exciting games on TV. In later years he enjoyed watching the Thunder and listening to the Hobart Bearcats on the radio and was always ready for a competitive game of cards or dominoes with family and friends. They usually played men vs women which made for lots of laughs all around! Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Faye, son, Robert Duane, his parents, brothers, Lloyd and Dale, and sister Francis.
