William Thomas "Billy Tom" Kinnison Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

.William Thomas “Bill” Kinnison of Granite passed away at Altus, Oklahoma February 25, 2016 at the age of 78. Bill was born February 18, 1938, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, to William Calvin JR and Ethel Clementine (Johnson) Kinnison. He was named after his grandfathers William Calvin Kinnison Sr and Thomas Sanders Johnson. Bill grew up in the Bentonia, Mississippi area and attended Benton High School. He was known by family and friends as “Billy Tom”. Bill joined the United States Air Force in1956 and was stationed at Altus AFB where he met Carolyn Rusk. They were married in 1959. To this union were born two sons Gregory Allen born at Anderson AFB Guam and Mark Douglas born at Offutt AFB Nebraska. Bill retired from the USAF as Chief Master Sergeant in 1977. The family moved to Granite, Ok where Bill began farming the family farm and raising cattle. Shortly thereafter he became Granite’s Rural Mail carrier and retired in 1998. Bill also played a great part in the reorganization The Granite American Legion. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, father and one brother, Elvin G. Kinnison. Bill is survived by his wife Carolyn, of the home, two sons and families, Greg Kinnison and wife Lee of Altus and Mark Kinnison and wife Brenda of Edmond; two sisters and families Golda Luse and husband Eddie and Byna Luse and husband Hal, one brother James Michael Kinnison and wife Cindy. Bill is also survived by four grandchildren, Chaz and Madison Briscoe, William Rusk and Jorie Kinnison and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Services for Billy Tom are scheduled for Tuesday, March 1, 2016, 2:00 P.M. at the Granite Church of Christ with Brother Ken Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Granite City Cemetery where the Air Force Military Honor Guard will perform full military rites.
