Carrie Beth Garza

Carrie Beth Garza, 62, passed away peacefully in her home on April 24th, 2024, following a brave battle with ovarian cancer. She was the toughest person we know, our hero. Carrie was born on October 1st, 1961, in Hobart, Oklahoma to Curtis and Patricia (Mitchell) Scott. She was the oldest child: responsible, resourceful, and resilient. She was a daddy’s girl and he taught her how to fix a car and bait a hook. She enjoyed the summers growing up in Grand Prairie, Texas, working the harvest with her family and vacationing on the beaches in Texas. Some of her favorite memories were of camping and fishing trips with aunts and uncles and cousins and grandparents. Her family moved to Lawton, OK, when she was 12 years old. She attended Lawton High School where she met Armando Garza and as teenagers, they got married on July 16th, 1979. They started their family right away and together they raised 11 children. They were married for 28 years. Carrie graduated from WOSC School of Nursing in Altus, OK in 1989. She was a wonderful nurse and would spend more than 30 years devoted to her career. She had a work ethic that was unrivaled, fostering and inspiring many young nurses through the years. She worked many places and held many titles, but her home was at Elkview General Hospital in Hobart, OK. Here, many of her coworkers became her second family, a bond that would span her lifetime. Carrie was a creator. She loved to sew, from her daughters’ rompers to their prom dresses, and later on, doll clothes for their daughters. She devoured books-she must have read thousands of them, and she kept a beautiful garden. Her sense of adventure and childlike imagination never faded. She was known to drop everything and drive anywhere just to see something new; to find a new swimming hole or to search for dinosaur tracks with her grandbabies. Carrie didn’t wait until she was dying to mend relationships or gather her family close like so many do. Her entire life she was the glue at the center of her ever growing family, and she spent her too few years filling our lives with light and color and beauty and magic. She will live on in the crash of the ocean waves, in every rose in bloom and in the faces of all of those she loved. We will carry her with us forever. Carrie is survived by her father Donald Curtis Scott, sister Kimberly Garza, sisters-in-law; Melinda Garza, Gerda Cox and Husband Ed, Yolanda Wade and Angie Garza, brothers-in-law; Gary Garza and wife Annette and Jimmy Garza and wife Jerrilyn, son Armando Garza and Shene, daughters; Amanda Garrett and husband Derrick, Maria Toro, Alicia Luna, Crystal McGee and husband Raymond ‘Bubba’, Priscilla Casey, Cassandra Holmes and husband Russell, Carrie Smith and husband Tevin, Lisa Mathews and husband Jarryd, Kirstie Webber and husband Jerrick, Doriana Garza and Deja Garza, grandchildren; Telaya, Destiny, Sausha, Havoc, Micheal, Bronwynne, Greyson, Jayden, Lydia, Triston, Maverick, Laney, Gavin, Darius, Lakelyn, Lexi, Kinzy, Adrien, Zayde, Ryker, Brianna, Brooklyn, Thatcher, Sutton, Emmy, Xandrew and Xoei and great granddaughter Kayoni. Carrie is preceded in death by her husband Armando Garza, son Orlando Garza, mother Patricia Scott, sister Angela Scott, grandson Shaedyn Holmes, father-in-law Santiago Garza, brothers-in-law; Gilbert Garza and Danny Garza, sisters-in-law; Dolores Hubbard and Belinda Susan, son-in-law Perry Luna, paternal grandparents Donald and Dora Scott, and maternal grandparents Robert and Dollie Mitchell. The celebration of Carrie’s life will take place on Tuesday, April 30th, 2:00 pm at Territory Cowboy Church in Hobart, OK with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery in Lawton, OK. Public viewing for Carrie will be held on Monday, April 29th, at 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with visitation for family and friends from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at the People’s Cooperative Funeral Home in Lone Wolf, OK., located at 1400 West Main, 580-846-9018.
