Joy Lynn Pope

Joy Lynn Pope was born on July 8, 1959, in Sentinel, Oklahoma to Faris Eugene Pope and Wilma Kathryn (Burnett) Pope, who resided in Lone Wolf. Joy had two older brothers, Larry and Gary; one older sister, Sue, and one younger sister, Patricia; four daughters, Keri, Carissa, Dawn and Katie. Joy passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior from an extended fight with her health for the past twenty years. Joy spent most of her life in a silent world; trying to read lips and simple signs to understand what people were saying. It was through this silence that Joy was able to shut out the harshness of the world and remain with a sweet spirit. Joy was such a blessing to many people without her knowing the impact she had on people’s lives. Joy moved to a group home in Oklahoma City in 2008 and stayed there until her fall in November of 2025. For many years until her younger sister passed, the two were inseparable, they had their own sign language they each only understood. They were roommates in the same group home for eight years at Meadowbrook Acres. She worked at Dale Rogers Training Center doing assembly line work for many years until her health made it necessary to retire. Then she went to an Adult Daycare facility where she made lots of new friends. She made crafts and always painted or used the color purple and would bring them to Sue. She loved doing diamond art projects with the girls at the group home. Whether it was pictures; bookmarks; coasters; or refrigerator magnets, she loved them all and taught me so I could become addicted also. She loved watching movies and television shows especially binge watching “Murder She Wrote” every time she came home. She loved people and her family. She loved playing games with us, especially Farkle and a card game called Stakum (which is a totally made-up game, but the whole family learned how to play). She especially loved family gatherings, holidays, Fourth of July activities, and any occasion to come down here. Joy always felt that Lone Wolf was her hometown, and she enjoyed being here whenever she could. She volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center here for about ten years, doing whatever we needed done. She and her brother Gary would go somewhere to “Music Night” almost every week before she moved. She was not one to sit at home when she had an opportunity to go somewhere. Joy was a member of the Lone Wolf Methodist church all her life, she was confirmed and baptized along with her daughter Katie. She attended church, the United Methodist Women group, Mother-Daughter Banquets and other events held at the church when she was in Lone Wolf. Every Sunday after church, she would text me and ask how many were at each church (Lone Wolf and Granite Methodist Churches.) In December of 2025, Joy was moved to Hobart Nursing and Rehab Facility after breaking her hip. She and her roommate, Georgette, enjoyed iced coffees and other treats from Kellie and Shannon’s food truck. It was so nice having her close to home where we were able to see her and I could go with her to Doctor Appointments. Joy was preceded in death by both parents; Wilma and Gene; brothers Larry and Gary; one sister Patricia and several aunts; uncles; and cousins. She is survived by one sister, Sue Merritt; four daughters; seven grandchildren and many friends and other relatives. Joy’s sweet and loving spirit will be missed by many. Memorial Services for Joy will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, 2:00 P.M., at Lone Wolf Methodist Church, with Pastor Sue Merritt officiating.
